spring and another in the fall.

The Greater Ishpeming Area Community Fund was established in 1994 with matching funds from the Kellogg Foundation as an affiliate of the Marquette Community Foundation. Grants from the GIACF serve the people of Western Marquette County including, the City of Ishpeming, Ishpeming Township, Ely Township, Tilden Township, Champion, Michigamme and Republic.
Currently the Fund has assets of $950,000 and has distributed $143,000 in grants and scholarships.

CHAMP
Communities Hosting Alternatives to Minors Partying
|
CHAMP is a group of school officials, parents, and students that schedule and coordinate activities on weekends through out the school year. The events are planned by and for students from Negaunee, Ishpeming, NICE and Republic. Their goal is to reduce the number of kids going to parties where alcohol and drugs are available.

Girl Scouts
Leadership Experience Program

Emily Bartanen and Jaclyn Holli, of the Greater Ishpeming Area Community Fund, present a grant check to Leslie Bek, from the Girl Scouts Northwestern Great Lakes. This money will be used to support local girls in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience program.

Ishpeming Strings Program
Recieves grant from the Greater Ishpeming Area Community Fund
|
Recently the Ishpeming Strings Program received a $750 grant from the Greater Ishpeming Area Community Fund. These funds will be used to purchase polo shirts embroidered with “Ishpeming Strings” that the students will wear when performing for school programs as well as outside engagements. The Ishpeming Strings Players are orchestra students from the Birchview Elementary School and the Ishpeming Middle School under the direction of teacher Anne Asplund.
